Curling up even more as the sounds of the argument escalated, Sarah focused on shading the sketch in her notebook. She tried to ignore the screaming, and sound of a belt being pulled free from its loops. She tried to ignore the sound of leather against skin, and the pained sounds that followed.
Glancing over her notebook as her father walked out of the kitchen, Sarah wasn’t surprised when he didn’t even look at her on his way to the front door. A moment after he left, her older sister stumbled out of the kitchen, and Sarah guiltily looked away.
