“What the hell is that?” said Lyssa, eyeing the steaming bowl of what she presumed must have, at one point, been vegetable matter of some sort.

“Dinner,” Ski answered with a scowl and an arm hooked defensively around the dish in question.

“If you say so.” Lyssa wrinkled her nose.

“I happen to like spinach,” said Ski. “It was such a pleasant surprise to find it at the market. I could hardly pass it up.”

“You’ve dumped half the spice rack into it.”

Ski jabbed a fork into her meal and brought it back up with green, stringy tendrils wrapped around the tip. “No one said you had to eat it.”

Lyssa grimaced, trying to ignore the lurch her stomach gave as her sister put the fork, laden with the offensive substance, to her lips. “Eat it?” said Lyssa, looking anwhere but at Ski, who was now slowly chewing. “I’d rather not be in tha same room with it.”

She reached for the cloak hung over the back of a chair. A hand thrust into one of the pockets brought out her coinpurse. Ski raised a brow as she peered inside. “I’m going to the bar,” she said. “To see if they have some normal food.”

Ski shrugged and continued chewing.
