Title: Skydance
Summary: Aurora!
Notes: Been a while since I’ve done poetry.
Aurora Borealis claims her sky,
Dancing from horizon to horizon,
A dizzying whirl-about.
She is dressed in greens and reds tonight,
Lit up for Christmas Eve,
And all who see her are, for once,
Aware of the mysteries of the universe.
They will investigate, they will explain,
But even when they think there
Is an answer,
The feeling of pinprick insignificance remains
To the observer.
She is slowing now as dawn approaches,
And her radiance dims from the two skies,
One above, one in the still lake,
Reflecting off the powder-snow,
Echoed in the mountain-snow.
On the porch, the man sighs,
Watches his breath fly away on biting winds,
And, as the sun sets the sky on fire,
He returns to bed, dreams of ice-sheets and the moon.
