Summary: Wes gets a little nervous while Hobbie is in surgery.
Notes: Apparently, January is Wes & Hobbie month.
“How long has it been?” Wes asked.
Shania had long stopped counting how often he asked. He made her more nervous than she already was, pacing back and forth in the waiting room they had all been led to while Hobbie was in surgery. This wasn’t the first time they had waited while someone was in surgery but Wes had never been so nervous about it before and often enough, he had been busy hitting on nurses while waiting.
Not today.
Today he was a nervous wreck who ducked out into the bathroom to cry every once in a while and kept asking how long it had been every few minutes.
“An hour,” Face answered. “And if you don’t calm down now, I’ll have to go ask someone to tranquilize you or something. It’s going to take another three hours or so.”
Wes stopped dead in his tracks in front of Face. “Why would anyone need so many hours to get someone’s heart to go back to beating? Don’t they know he’ll be like Frankenstein if they wait that long.”
“Frankenstein’s Monster,” Kev corrected him absentmindedly.
“What?”
“Frankenstein was the scientist. Victor Frankenstein. The monster didn’t have a name,” Kev explained. “And they aren’t reviving Hobbie. He never stopped living.”
“But then what are they doing?” Wes looked genuinely puzzled.
“They are cutting him open and using a vein that isn’t as important to replace the one that’s broken so the blood won’t clot,” Shania helped out, sensing Kev’s explanation would go way over Wes’ head.
“They are cutting him open? With a knife?” Wes repeated shocked.
“That’s what surgery is all about. Can’t have surgery without cutting someone open,” Face confirmed when Wes looked over to him questioningly as if he wasn’t entirely sure if Shania was telling the truth.
“Then they might as well kill him! Nobody survives being cut open!”
“Oh God,” Shania whispered, leaning against Face’s shoulder. “What the hell have we done?”
“Shirley had a baby come out of her and survived,” Lara tried to help out, but that didn’t seem to help Wes all that much.
“But that’s normal. Having babies is normal but heart attacks are different. How do you even know these doctors know how to deal with heart attacks?”
“They do,” Face and Kev said at once.
“Yeah right. Nobody even believes in heart attacks until they happen and you want to tell me that random doctors at a hospital are experts on how to deal with them?”
Shania sunk further into her seat, not wanting to be part of this conversation any longer.
“You don’t believe in heart attacks, Wes,” Lara sighed. “We do. Believe me, everyone here knows what they are doing. Now, would you please just sit down and shut up? I’m going to have a heart attack if you don’t.”
