Book recs, please

I'm currently experiencing quite a bit of anxiety and other no-good feelings that make me cry and curl up in bed screaming so I would appreciate any book recommendations you can offer. I like all genres but right now I'd really like some sci-fi, fantasy, or something humorous, anything to get me out of my head for a while.

Thank you!! I'm reading The Element of Fire right now and will try to find the others :D

I've never read anything by Bill Bryson but I've heard his name before (although I can't remember in which uni course).

The thing about living in Spain is that many books in English I see recced are nowhere to be found here or if they are, they're in Spanish. I prefer to read books like their authors wrote them and only read them translated if there's no other choice, which is often the case, unfortunately :(

I'm reading the Shadowmarch series by Tad Williams at the moment - it's high fantasy, but in the "Elves are pricks" vein. And you know how I feel about elves :D

AHAHAHA, seriously, what did elves ever do to you? (Not that I disagree with your opinion)

Hee! They just annoy me, I'm not entirely sure why. Maybe I was teased by elves as a small child?

Have you read the 'Tales of the City' series by Armistead Maupin? HIGHLY recommend them. Also, anything by Stephen Fry.

I have not and I will check it out as soon as I can!

I love Stephen Fry <333 The last time I was in London I got 'The Liar' and 'Moab Is My Washpot'.
