Make sure you downloaded the drivers for the correct model of the scanner for the correct type of OS. Scanners can sometimes be finicky about stuff like that because they're input devices, rather than just output like printers. You may also want to disable your anti-virus when you do the install. The AV will simetimes hiccup the process. That's about all I can think of off the top of my head.
