I can kind of identify with the Urchin. I had similar problems with school when I was younger. At one point, there was concern that I was showing some sort of learning disability. Turns out I was just bored silly-good reading comprehension meant I was finishing assignments quickly, then sitting there staring into space. I also had a tendency (heck, still do) to resent having my time wasted with inane projects.

Not knowing too much about your son, is he ADDH? Has he had any sort of testing?

My brother was always in trouble and failing classes during his school career. I think he still holds the record for detentions. How many people do you know had to serve detentions during the summer? =) We really were convinced that he was maybe average to be below average. Once he got out of school and entered union trade school that is when he really shined. He really understood advanced math & science but he was so bored in classes and caused so much trouble everyone assumed him to be struggling.

That being said I was always the happiest and my grades were always the best that I could do when I was the most busy between marching band, color guard, theatre, softball, girl scouts, and whatever other crazy actitives I signed up for.

Good luck and I am glad to hear that your son loves summer school!
