And a princess brought up in a life of luxury cannot understand the words survival of the fittest, nor know what it's like to loose so many children to the harsh weather.

I most certainly agree. And if the antidote is not able to be distributed to everyone by some means, I would not mind perishing for those who should live.

However, I want to believe there's a way everyone could be saved.

There is a way for everyone to be saved, and that is by working together, not competing for the antidote.
