Wow this is so pretty. It's so poetically written and there's something very dreamlike about this. It's like this whole story takes place in a time long ago, I don't know really. It's got a touch to it that reminds me of Brideshead Revisited, I don't know if you've read the book or seen the film or tv-series (If you haven't, you really should because it's one heck of a story).
I have never enjoyed reading Sergio/Iker before because to me, Sergio can only ever be paired with Fernando but this makes my heart melt and almost makes my breathing stops so I'm okay with the pairing anyways. And it's more gen than an actual pairing so far, so it probably helps me quite a bit too. :)
The things Raul did to Sergio though. Wow, I've never seen abuse written in such a beautiful way before.
i haven't read or seen brideshead revisited although i have heard of it. i am now tracking it down under your advisement!
i'm glad you gave sergio and iker a chance and that you enjoyed them! i can't lie, i really, really love reading and writing nando and sergio, but iker and sergio stole the lions share of my heart. this is kind of late, but i would've warned you off the fourth part. it's so dark!

Sergio's grandmother called him a child of fire and earth when she first saw him and the spark found in his newly opened eyes. The connection is felt now, the urge to have both within him now especially as he grows lean and tall, a young man with the world outside far from his cramped bedroom, the needle sharp in his fingers and his young eyes strained.
You have a way of seeing/describing Sergio that gives me the chills. Every. single. time. So beautiful and heartfelt and passionate.
.....you know what it IS reminiscent of Brideshead Revisited. That aside...
Love the imagery, i could see everything inhe club, and smell the earth in the orchard. I could hear the low voices of the women and the tinkling of the coins he puts in his father's box. The illict secret.. Saying someone's name like you are proud to see them --- i know exactly what that sounds like. The beginning about women's work and who works the hardest. That tells you everything you need to know about Sergio's mother and about Sergio's life.
reading the piece was like a slow burn......the good kind.....embers is a good title.
