Harry Potter Headcanons

So, having gotten back into watching Harry Potter (and perhaps reading them once I get a Kindle of my own), I feel the sudden urge to mention some of my HP headcanons:

1. Harry Potter is bisexual. Whether this is due to the books being written by a (presumably) heterosexual cis-lady author, the fact is he does notice and key-in on the ( Read more... )

This one might be a little convoluted, but Cedric was gay and it was kind of an open secret amongst his circle of friends. Harry hadn't realized it partially because he didn't know Cedric well enough and partially because he just was bad at picking up on that sort of thing. All the times Harry thought Cedric and Cho were being lovey, they were platonic life partners. Cho, being a close friend of Cedric, knew he was gay and went to the Yule Ball with him as a good friend. She didn't know that Harry wasn't aware of Cedric's sexuality and thus that Harry was jealous of how close she was to him.

I don't mind how convoluted this sounds to you, I find this adorable! It seems to make fine sense to me, with Cho being to Cedric what Hermione is to Harry (and besides, platonic relationships can be just as strong as (if not stronger than) romantic relationships, as we've seen throughout the series).

I love it; headcanon accepted!

How about this: Dumbledore has difficulty feeling empathy, but tries to be a 'good' person. He's so reluctant to act because he knows he can't be trusted to know when to stop. That's why Riddle's scared of him; it's not because of how powerful he is, it's because he doesn't draw the line of 'this is too far'.

Sort-of headcanon: I spent a lot of OotP waiting for the big reveal that Harry was under some kind of mental control or emotion enhancer - something to explain why he suddenly decided that the adults weren't worth listening to and started picking fights with everyone. And found that the explanation was supposed to be puberty. I like my private explanation that the piece of Voldemort's soul in his scar started subtly influencing him then. Aside from anything else, it gives some excuse for the whole 'gallant Crucio' bit.

Those are pretty neat ones, actually. It also adds to the accepted idea that Dumbledore never became Minister for magic because he knew he couldn't be trusted with real power. I imagine that if he wasn't in Gryffindor, he would have ended up in Slytherin; the headcanon I heard of, that each of the golden trio represents Slytherin, Ravenclaw and Hufflepuff, and were placed in Gryffindor because you can always choose to be brave, is one of my favourites.

I digress. Basically, headcanons accepted! Sociopath Dumbledore wins!
