You were going well until I noticed a shortage of exclamation points at the most important part. That and a way of speeding things up in the end. Otherwise, that does sound like Salinger.
Salinger tends to ramble towards the end. The condensed versions most schools use (because they also remove the profanity) do not contain such ramblings.
It's a little work inspired by Salinger's Catcher in The Rye and some water that's under the bridge.
I wrote it to get the last of my frustrations out about that water as it passed by.
