Brilliant. I love the way you write Smith, the way you write his voice. I love the "I have never been very good at adjusting to new places," line, which is an interesting character trait for Smith to have, considering the Doctor is constantly moving and having to adjust to all sorts of different places. Absolutely brilliant! :D
I've found that, unlike the novel where the underlying Doctor is more prominent, Smith in the episode is a very, very different man. A little selfish, a little cowardly. He forgets people are there, like Martha. The Doctor tends to notice everyone. I think I don't always like Smith, either, which makes him exceptionally interesting to me.
There are no words. I just love your John. You've nailed his voice - well, judging by the two episodes he was in - and ... I just love reading the journal entries. It's like the bit of him they scraped the surface on in the series, but more in-depth and completely believable. And I dunno what it is, but you make me want to give him a hug. ): He's just got a sadness about him. ... Or maybe it's just me, that's possible. :D
... Every time I say 'there are no words' I come out with several. Maybe I should say that more often. XD
The entire idea of him being a new person, being so completely and utterly different, is so much fun to write. It's like washing clean a palate of DoctorDoctorDoctor, you know? And Smith, well, he's got to have a little sadness in him. For all that he's not the Doctor, he still is him.
