This is painful to read but I love you for writing it. I have no idea how you came to choose this topic but I'm glad you wrote it. Not only is it good reading, it's a history lesson (even if I did know about foot binding) and it highlights that traveling isn't always fun and games. Both of their voices are spectacular throughout.

Also, the nods toward the end about someone making him want to change something eventually.

Well, I'm actually taking a class on ancient China and Japan, and footbinding was mentioned briefly during the course (I then spent the next like a billion hours going through and reading about it).

I'm glad you liked this! It was tough to write, but historical stories usually are for me.
