It was entirely possible that the Doctor had gotten way in over his head in this situation. It was not the sort of situation most people would consider "over their heads", but the Doctor had never been like most people, not even when he was among his own species. The Doctor spun around and grinned, madly. His melancholy thoughts of the moment before vanished.
"Lady Christina," he said. "Small universe, isn't it?" Oh, but weren't they a pair? Both dressed in their fanciest attire, standing in the fanciest of summer parties, and the likelihood that either of them were there for the party was slim to none.
"Should have them play 'As Time Goes By'," he commented, nodding over to the band. "Would be more than a little appropriate. So, Lady Christina. Friend of the court?"

"Though I have to say, it just got a tad more interesting than it was a moment before." She plucked a glass of champagne off a roaming server and took a small sip. "You clean up nicely."

He popped out a foot, showing off his black converses. "Always in style. And functional." He wondered, briefly, if she had a wench in her skirts. He wouldn't be surprised, knowing Christina. She did manage to make so many things fit inside of that bag of hers back on that desert he almost could believe she was a Time Lord.
