EDS school made lentil soup for this weeks parsha, but EDS must have missed something because he calls it carrot soup. He was at the table that cut carrots.

They do really cute stuff. It is perfect for boys and because they mix ages it allows advanced kids to learn more in dept and less mature children to go at their own pace. For Lech Lecha they made a tent and invited each other in like guests and washed each other's feet.

I'm so confused...why are they teaching that Jacob sat in the tents studying torah? Is that midrash or something?

Yes, it's in the Midrash:

And the youths grew up, and Esau was a man who understood hunting, a man of the field, whereas Jacob was an innocent man, dwelling in tents. (Genesis 25:27)

Rashi - dwelling in tents: the tent of Shem and the tent of Eber. - [From Midrash Genesis Rabbah 63:10]

Ah. I'm afraid that I don't study much midrash. And that's the first time i've ever seen "tam" translated as "innocent." I generally think it means "simple."

Rashi often quotes the Midrash, and he is seen as one of the classic commentators on the Torah. You can find Rashi in English at http://www.chabad.org/bible.

Tam can mean both. Off the top of my head - a shor tam as opposed to a shor mu'ad when discussing an ox that does or doesn't tend to gore.
