Yes. Demographically, two things cause revolution.
1. Young men not having enough work. Lack of economic opportunity makes angry people.
2. Young men not having enough sex. Where there is a shortage of approximately women of the same age to marry and settle down with, social instability happens. It doesn't matter how this shortage happens (famine, privileging boys, older men taking multiple younger brides, adopting baby girls out, etc.) but it is always bad.
It should be interesting to see what happens in rural China (urban Chinese are increasingly willing to accept either a boy or a girl as their only child) when all these young boys come of age. There aren't going to be enough women for them to marry, and opportunites for rural Chinese men are very limited.
