Am I insane? or has the semester just taken it's toll?

After spending hours hunting for a decent looking winter coat, I've decided that it's time to get the sewing machine out again. I'm leaning toward the following pattern done in a black and gold brocade fabric with black velvet trim on the collar and cuffs. Too much? Like it? Hate it? Too much like Miss Scarlett's curtain's or a detroit pimp?

Thanks

I'm sure that could be arranged. Let me get this one done first and see hard it would be to smooth out the bust and broaden the shoulder a bit, before I start taking requests.

A sword will ensure that everyone likes your coat.

How's your orange reptilain roomate?

Cranky, he'll shed in the next day or two so his skins all itchy right now. He's hiding under a plant and hoping I'll turn the heat up ;)

With black 'n gold brocade, sure... if you'd gone with the original color in the illustration, bleeeeeah! And stay away from that hat too...

Oh, come now! EVERY woman wants to look like Charlie Chaplin! :P

I think the coat is lovely. Looks like it'd work famously over pants or dresses; versatility is key, 'cause who wants to dink around with (or has money for) four or five coats for the season?

Now, I want to add a little mustache to that drawing!

It would be fairly versatile, I have an inherited ankle-length fur (yes, terribly un-PC, I know) languishing in the closet to lack of elegant situations. My daily coat is a black leather tench that's now showing its wear. And for the "it's -30 degrees, why the fuck do I live in the North?" days I have my father's old army trench coat (cold-war/cold-winter, same diff!). I just want something functional enough for class/shopping/dinner out afterwords without spending an arm and a leg. Fabric-wise I can probably make this for under $150.

Thanks for the input!

Yay for trenchcoats fiachra November 22 2005, 04:41:40 UTC
I'll have to get a good picture of my "bless you my son" opera trench when I wear it to a wedding next month as part of my formal suit. Fools 9 out of 10 best men into thinking I'm a priest in training :^D

I think the black brocade is lovely.

Now, I like the hat, but then again I'm of the sort who goes out wearing a fedora with my black Burberry trench, too...

That hat's not my style but I do frequently wear either a Greek fisherman's cap or a black fedora. I also have one of those net trimmed Hepburn style fedoras for a fancier touch ;)

Thanks for the opinion, every now and again my odd taste gets away from me and I need second opinions!
