I'm older than dirt...

I went to the doctor yesterday concerning my cholesterol levels. She prescribed Crestor. Why? It was all over the news last night that Crestor helps to prevent heart disease and may help clear out already existing plaque in the heart. And I? Have not only very high cholesterol, but a pretty high chance of having a heart attack as well. I can, ( Read more... )

You have high cholesterol and are on Crestor. I have hypertension and am on HCT. We both need to lose 30 lbs. We are so twins.

I know honey - I read your entry about the high blood pressure . The hell? We even carry our weight the same way.

How are you going about losing the weight? I know I need to work out and work harder on cutting out bad things from my diet but I'm not feeling all that motivated right now.

I work out like crazy, but I'm one of those weird people who likes it. It was hard when I was traveling last month (I gained 5 lbs.!), but I went back to the gym yesterday. I try and exercise 3-5 times a week, but now I'm going into overdrive and will start running for 30 minutes at home on the treadmill, and then going to the gym at night.

My current routine consists of:

Monday - Kickboxing (1 hr.)
Tuesday - Spinning (45 min.)
Wednesday - Running (30 min.) then Total Body Conditioning/Weights (1 hr.)
Thursday - Cardio Dance (1 hr.)

I want to add Capoiera on Fridays to that soon.

I also switched to eating mostly all organic/natural foods, eat a lot of lean meats like chicken and lots of veggies. Luckily for me, I love them.

The doctor doesn't say I need to lose 30 lbs. -- that's my goal. I'll be a size 6 when I do, which I haven't been since 1994. Boo yah.

Wow! I was like that this past summer - did the detox diet and lost 16 pounds and worked out 3 or 4 times a week. I do like it (both the working out and the eating the good nummy veggies and things) but I'm not feeling motivated at the moment.

Yeah, my doctor didn't tell me to lose 30 pounds - that's a personal goal - I would probably be a 6 as well if I can get there. We'll see.

Just send some motivation vibes this way please and thank you.

Maybe I need to join a gym.

Cholestorol has so little to do with diet, it's so unfair. You can be the healthiest person in all the world and your c levels can be sky high, or eat lard all day every day and have no problems at all. Life is poopy that way.

Hang in there.

I'm preaching yoga to everyone these days.

One of my friends just started. She needs to lose some weight, and I know that joining a gym seems very overwhelming to her right now. She was also hospitalized with a freak asthmatic condition a little over a year ago, and has the occasional breathing problem. Since she started going to 2 -3 yoga classes a week, she consciously makes better eating choices, and it's helping her breathing tremendously. It's also easing her out of the winter blues really well.

As for myself, well some weeks I do 4 classes, others I do only one or two, and mix that up with some cardio or pilates. I'm trying to get healthier and in better shape. Winter is just tough. I don't like hefting weights.

Exercise will definitely help the cholesterol problem.

And I love the yoga (Yodney Yee in his tight shorts is a plus!) There is also a sweet little yoga studio right near my apartment - maybe joing it will be a nice compromise.

Oy- stupid cholesterol!!!

You know I totally hear you about the exercise thing- I am right there with you. When the weather gets better we should walk the park with the boy; we'll make it a regular date. : )

I hear you on the depression. I'm in my "I'm tired, i hurt and i don't want to deal with this crap so i'm going to hide out." phase.

OK, add wedding blues in there too and anyone can see why i'm hiding out in my little office here.

Ah, yes wedding blues - I think that's what got me into all this trouble in the first place!
