I was just reading a story about how a woman is trying to ban Harry Potter from school libraries because she feels the book promotes witchcraft as a religion. I understand her concerns. I've never read Harry Potter books, but I've seen a couple of the movies. I wouldn't say they promoted witchcraft, but I guess if you were an impressionable child, ( Read more... )

i definitely feel the same way about getting children to read. I know that when I was tutoring kids, i saw a dramatic improvement not only in spelling and word recognition, but comprehension as well. They would be able to tell me EVERYTHING that was going on in this book. It sounded hella complicated to me, but these kids understood every word without anyone even telling them. that's amazing anyway you slice it.
