Note that when they say they aren't interested in movies with female leads, they mean not interested right now. In six months their interests could be entirely different. The thing is, executives who have to greenlight or redlight movies generally have no idea how to make these decisions, so the best they can do is look at how other movies have been doing recently and try to follow trends that they generally don't understand. So if someone notices movies with female leads haven't been performing well, the best they know how to do in terms of greenlighting successful movies is not greenlight movies with female leads for a while. It's a fumbling in the dark sort of endeavor.

Just because they don't have enough information to make smart decisions doesn't mean it's okay for them to make stupid sexist ones.
