Nature Post (for those still present)!

Some flowers today! And other things. And I actually managed to successfully identify things, which makes me happy. And although the plants that will soon cover the entire shoreline of the lake are just getting started, I can see them preparing. And my ospreys are back, in the same nest and perched in the same tree ( Read more... )

Autocorrect is great at uncorrecting words. One of our stand up comedians had a bit about how her phone corrected her Mother in-law's name from Cynthia, to another, rather less accepted C-word.

At a guess I'd say that the picnic table is paddling in the water, or some bears put it there as part of an elaborate plan to steal somebody's pic-a-nic basket.

Those chokecherries look delicious, I wonder if they're safe to eat.

The most amazing thing about those carpenter bees is that they can play the drums extremely well, though they're primarily known for their delightful singing voice and musical partnership with their brother.

DEATH FLOWERS! We have those, though ours don't have hands growing off them.

I'm sure it was bears. Since they have nothing better to do. Maybe they plan to drown the people and steal their food.

Chokecherries are edible, but not very tasty, from what I hear. I don't know where the name comes from.

I'm not even responding to the part about the bees. Seriously.

That is a very strange growth on that particular flower. I wonder if it's a parasite.

I'm here - off and on - and that was totally fascinating as usual. I could happily read one of your nature posts every day and learn something new every time. Thank you so much - I probably don't say that often enough!

I must make some kind of effort and go out with my camera and then identify what we have in our garden/wilderness. I'll post about it when I get back to UK next week.

I will enjoy it! I love seeing pictures of other people's parts of the world, especially the small places and small things!

I love your photos, especially the tangled vines and the ospreys.

I wonder if those flowers are what Tolkien thought of when he wrote that white flowers grew on the tombs of the Kings of Rohan.

Seems reasonable... the association would have been well-known when he was writing because that's a particularly good habitat for this plant, and it's a very elegant flower.
