Do explore, most of this place is abandoned. To claim a home, simply find a place that is unlocked and uninhabited. You'll find a key near the door, lock the door and it's yours.
To get food, simply go to a store that is uninhabited and take what you need. It restocks overnight and there's no monetary system. If you want something from a store with a shopkeeper, like mine or the tailor, we usually accept payment in errands.

Thank you for the information! This is very helpful knowledge and a young explorer should know these things before departing on such a grand adventure. It seems to me like I will have plenty of sites to explore.
I suppose my priority will be to find a hive. But hopefully we will meet face-to-face soon. It would be wise to have some more insight into the city itself; I take it with such measures as difficult escape plans, there is more than meets the eye?

As for the Dream Bubbles, they are a meeting place between the living and the dreaming dead. They are built around the memories of those who inhabit them and as of late I have been exploring and connecting them to one another.

For me Prospit just got destroyed and Kanya was performing her sick spontaneous amputations, when I fell asleep and got killed by the demon.... I woke up here.

It seems that we are from different points in our respective timelines!
It was a while ago for me since all of that destruction was brought forth; not too long though and while I admit it was terrible, something good did come out of it.
I spoke to Tavros recently, before I got here. He seems to be doing well in the afterlife.

i spoke to one of the daves who was sacrificed in a doomed timeline
but the workings of dream bubbles and memories are astounding and he seemed ok with how things were
for the most part
