Satisfied with that, he just has to hope that Ed isn't paying attention to the video feed. Or else his covert operations will all be for naught

Taking care of a new pet, I take it?

Cats are quite picky with names, so it is always good to ask.

[Anyone else would think that the Count is just being silly, but rather, he is being truthful]

Oh? I guess that's not surprising; cats seem pretty particular, really.

[They remind him of some of Edward's more finicky tendencies.]

They just know what they want.

[From off screen there was a mew, and an Abyssinian cat climbs onto D's lap, poking it's nose at the screen.]

Ah, Bast, don't be rude.

That's pretty true.

[Alphonse blinks a bit at that.] Oh! Heh. I guess you have a friend too, huh? [He waves at the cat, as silly as that might be.]

[D strokes the cat's head and nods, the cat mews and places a paw on the screen] I have many. [He pans the camera around, showing off his petshop, with it's various inhabitants, all kinds of animals. It wasn't nearly as full as it once was, but company was company]

[Alphonse blinks.] Oh! [A surprised little sound at that.] That's... that's pretty great.

I take it you like cats.

I do! Ah... animals in general really. [Small pandas, for example. Three-legged dogs.]

[D gave him a small smile, something more real than he's used to] If you ever want, you may come and play with my pets any time you like. [because they needed someone other than the Count to play with]

That's really nice of you to offer! I'd like that. [He nods a little.]

I'm sure the pets would love someone else around to play with.
