Even Xanxus had been drawn outside, mostly by the fireworks. Despite himself and his distaste for company as of late he found himself watching the festivities, standing near to a more than lifesized ice statue of a lion while he frowned upon the cheerfully smiling personell, for lack of a better word.

His thick, fur-lined winter coat shielded him from the cold rather well, so whatever trick of perception may have been going on was lost on him entirely. Yet he watched, silently, shunning completely the food and drink that had been provided, while occasionally his gaze wandered up to the sky for the fireworks.

Theta was divided almost perfectly in half on the issue of New Year's at Ruby City. She wandered around carefully, still with her cane in one hand, though already she was using it less for her weight and more for simply her balance. The expression on her face was of glee and of sadness, and she had no idea which of the two it was that she was feeling. Whatever it was, it was strong.

It was near to midnight when she caught sight of Xanxus, and she didn't say a word to him. There was nothing -to- say. She did, however, go stand near him, refusing to acknowledge that the urge to cry was slowly winning. She wasn't going to let it win out, wasn't going to let it cripple her ability to hold her head high. He didn't have time for it; she didn't have time for overly emotional bullshit.

She was blaming this on being stuck in a female body, and not looking back.

Absently he noted that she was improving in her movements as she came to stand beside him. He did not attempt to make sense of the expression on her face, or request an explanation. More than likely it'd be something he didn't really want to hear anyway.

Silently his gaze swept over the rest of the place, searching. Not just the ground but also the nearby rooftops. Moments after he cursed himself for looking, eyes hard at the thought of who exactly he'd been trying to spot.

Emotional bullshit was something neither of them intended to take time to deal with.

Theta watched him as he looked around the vicinity, as though he was searching for something. Or someone. Was he looking for Squalo? Even if he was, it wasn't her place to ask. So instead, she just continued to hang around him, content to be silent and enjoy his company. After all, people who truly appreciated each other's company could enjoy it in near perfect silence, without needing to fill it with a bunch of noise simply to not feel awkward.

Theta wandered around the party vicinity, looking at everything with a baffled and amazed expression on her face. She would smile cheerily every so often, but just as frequently she looked close to tears. She still had her cane with her, but her left leg was obviously missing, the prosthesis she was wearing from above the knee on down not even trying to masquerade as a regular leg.

She found a place to sit and rest her leg, the unbending false one stretched out in front of her. It was surprisingly comfortable. And...this was a New Year's party. It made her happy enough to be close to tears.

Lenalee certainly had a lot to be thankful for this coming year. Even though she had been brought to such a strange world she had met so many people that slowly began molding this place in to a new home to be in love with. The strangeness was overlapped by the joy she felt waking up to know that her brother, Allen, Kanda, and Lavi were here. She did surely miss the others but she silently hoped they'd be along with the rest of them ( ... )

He had been gathering intel of this new place he had somehow ended up. So much so, he had forgotten completely about New Years and he spent the day toiling away at exploring his new living space among other things. Komui hadn't even realized night had fallen.

It also didn't take him long after that to realize Lenalee wasn't there. So after some thought, and knowing his sister as he did, he meandered about Ruby City in search of her. After all, there was no danger of her being with a boy, was there?

It wasn't long before he came upon the park, seeing Lenalee on the solitary swing. A faint, but soft and calm smile slipped onto his face as he quietly walked up behind her. His hands grasped the chains of the swing as he gave it a light push.

"Just because I said I would follow you most everywhere, doesn't give you license to just go wandering off anywhere without informing me, you know." Komui chided gently.

Broken from her thoughts, Lenalee squeaked and looked up to see her brother above her, helping her on the swing with gentle pushes. "I'm sorry. I didn't want to wake you up until the big event was here." She said quietly as she happily swayed.

"How are you settling in, Brother?" She asked as she glanced back up at him with a smile. "I went to the market and bought some coffee that I'd be more than happy to make for you if you'd like."

More than full of end of the year soba, but still hungry enough to be snacking on a bag of mixed candy, Goro and Toge were wandering around, taking in sights when Goro slowed to a stop suddenly at the blonde woman who was close enough for what Goro was going to do next.

Taking a breath, she called brightly; "Hey! Hey, Larxene! Hey!" This was accompanied by some frantic one hand waving as she smiled. "Happy almost New Year!"
