Lily had been nervously sipping eggnog all evening as she, Severus, and James all shared some very interesting looks. She'd been trying to avoid the mistletoe, as the only person it was acceptable to be kissing was James, and tonight kissing James meant kissing James in front of Severus, who she had kissed not that long ago.
But the eggnog had clouded her thoughts, just enough that she found herself leaning up against a wall, unwittingly right below the mistletoe.
And now he dies... xDhalfbloodalwaysDecember 6 2011, 19:04:13 UTC
Severus had been trying his best to avoid the mistletoe. The only person he wanted to kiss was the very person he couldn't kiss - at least not here. Still, he had indulged in something he hadn't done so in a very long time - drinking just a little too much. He walked, fairly well, among the crowd, trying to find a waiter to refill his drink again but none seemed in sight right then. Even James seemed absent from the bar which caused Severus to scowl. The one time he wanted to have the other wizard around and he had seemingly vanished.
He continued to wander along. Somewhere during the evening his traveling cloak had gone missing and he had unbuttoned his jacket due to the heat brought on by the alcohol. When he finally came to rest he didn't notice at first that the person he was standing next to was Lily - he was just thankful for a wall to lean against for a moment.
Lily glanced over at the man standing beside her, and the corners of her mouth tilted up into a grin when she realized who it was. Most of the nervousness she'd been harboring over his presence this evening was subdued by the positive thing she felt for him, and the alcohol in her veins.
Her ready smile was immediately returned - yes, he had drunk to excess but not enough that he was falling down or yelling. But his inhibitions were lowered and his brain's protests muffled greatly.
"Hey," he replied, adding another grin to it but this one was a little mischievous, perhaps even roguish. The truth was that if he had ever given a damn about his appearance Severus could have been rather handsome, save his crooked nose, but even that would suit his looks well.
That was just what Lily had been thinking that night he had kissed her, that he had grown into his features very nicely, and was quite handsome. Much more than he had been at eighteen. She leaned toward him, ever so slightly.
Severus could clean up well when he wanted to - the Yule Ball was one of the few times he had bothered to care enough to do so. It didn't hurt that whenever he was around Lily he felt the years wash away from him in terms of his mind. All that pain and suffering seemed to vanish when she smiled at him and, in turn, his appearance brightened.
"Better now," he smirked, turning so that he could properly face her. Unfortunately, this also put his back to the bar which, had he been thinking with his brain, was an extremely bad idea.
"I'm glad," she said, with a little sigh, "me too. It really is a lovely night, don't you think?" She had completely forgotten about the tension between them earlier.
The tension was a distant memory for him as well. "Very lovely," he replied, his eyes not taking in their surroundings but instead finding Lily's gaze.
How he adored those eyes - her hair - her smile - her voice - her laugh. Hazily, he thought of how it would be to tell her someday how much he loved every part of her being - how her mere presence made him feel 18 and not 38. All the thoughts he kept locked away and hated when they did escape were being allowed the free run of his mind. The thoughts alone were enough to get his heart beating, hard, in his chest but for the first time in he couldn't remember how long he didn't mind the sensation. He was in love and it felt good and that was all his drunken mind cared about right then.
A loop-sided smile was his reaction to her push. "I will not. Not when I'm speaking the truth. Your eyes, your hair, your skin, your smile, your lips, your voice, your laugh, your mind, your body - all perfect." The adoration and warmth of his words were enough to make him, even in his inebriated state, flush more. In the distance something was screaming at him for revealing so much but right then he couldn't be arsed to care.
Her cheeks coloured further and she felt a surge of butterflies in her gut. "Thank you," was all she could think to say, her voice quiet, almost meek."
"Heh... probably shouldn't have said all that. A little much to take in at once. Got going and it just all came out." He swayed a little and had he been sober and watching someone acting as he was he would have thought them a complete and utter fool. But right then - if anyone had ever wanted to see how Severus would have turned out as a teenager were it not for his upbringing and his own behavior this was that moment to see it.
He leaned in as well, heat finding places on him to wake up that were almost always kept dormant and butterflies fluttering in his stomach. The mix of sensations was an absolutely dizzying high unlike anything he had ever experienced. "Every word," he answered, voice soft, as he dare a few steps closer to her.
But the eggnog had clouded her thoughts, just enough that she found herself leaning up against a wall, unwittingly right below the mistletoe.
