I'm in no way trying to justify the actions of students who are being pissy about Joepa being fired, but I think a lot of it is the fact that life as they know it is going to change forever. It's not just about football, Paterno did a lot of things that contributed to the academic success of Penn State students, etc. The man is basically revered as god in State College and the many students and alumni have been hearing about how super awesome he is for the better part of their lives.
Some of my friends (whose opinions I usually value) are actually supporting the fact that he covered all this up. Its incredibly weird and sad that they are unable to see how horrific the situation is. I'm hoping most of them will eventually let go of their vitriol and realize that the punishment doesn't even come close to fitting the crime.
I just read the Grand Jury presentment. They should burn that place to the ground.
