Looking for a real estate broker recommendation in Brooklyn

A friend is looking for a real estate broker recommendations in Brooklyn.
Apparently one aspect of buying in Brooklyn is that there are a lot of smaller brokerages, many of which are not members of the Real Estate Board of New York (REBNY).  This means that they are not required to co-broke/share their with buyer brokers, so local

Is your friend looking in any particular neighborhood or is he/she considering many different ones?

Prefrably along the B,Q subway lines, close to express stops

Seriously, the strategy would be very different depending on where along B/Q they want to be. I'd say to go for someone big, like Corcoran, in Fort Greene and Park Slope, someone local in Prospect Lefferts Gardens and Ditmas Park (for Ditmas Park, use Mary Kay Gallagher for a house and Brooklyn Hearth for an apartment) and a combination of someone super local + lots of legwork themselves further down the line. Tell them to subscribe to Property Shark and StreetEasy.
