if you don't mind, I'm going to print this, and past it in my book and call it canon.

Very well done, I loved it a lot!

Thanks. I knew that scene first edition had to be a typo!

Wow! Pomfrey and Sinistra were not who I was expecting from your summary, but they are fantastic here -- I especially like the way this story finds heroism in ordinary people. And Tonks herself, a mixture of defiant bravery and sensible fear -- so believable.

Poor Lavender, but at least it wasn't full moon...

And, naturally, I love this alternative to the canon outcome. (Now I understand the reference to Remus's memory loss in "The Grass That Grows.")

Thanks. I really enjoyed looking at the battle from the POV of two minor characters. (erm, just out of curiosity, which witches were you expecting?)

Yes, poor Lavender. I thought JKR gave pretty short-shrift to the casualties of the battle - other than Fred, that is - and I wanted to imply at least a bit of long-term impact.

This was going to be the original prologue to "The Grass That Grows" but it's one of the chapters I had a hard time writing. Plus I liked the feel of the opening scene with Andromeda at the Burrow. When I saw the L'Amour prompt it just seemed to fit, so I dusted it off and finished it.

Heh. I figured Tonks, but for the other two I thought maybe Andromeda, waiting at home, or else someone out in the battle, like Ginny, Hermione, or Molly. But I loved that it was Pomfrey (I'm fond of her for looking after Remus all those years) and Sinistra (it's always great to see a non-entity background character fleshed out).
