SpringFest information and community guidelines

Wotcher! Spring has sprung (in the northern hemisphere), which means that it is high time for us all to put a little more Remus/Tonks love in the world again. Or fic and art, that is. And so, we are pleased to announce the rt_morelove SpringFest 2014.

This event will be similar to the Stocking Filler Exchange - but with a few differences, so please make Professor Lupin proud and read through the next few inches of parchment (behind the cut) so you’ll be familiar with how it all works.

Guidelines & Rules
If you read and inwardly digest these, as Remus Lupin would say: “It would tend to give you an edge!” More seriously, please do so, as we want this to be fun for all and not at all brain-taxing!

1. Content
We’re sure it’s pretty obvious from the name, but this is a community for fans of Remus and Tonks and their relationship, whether they’re involved romantically together or not. So the one and only golden rule (or the pink one) when it comes to content, is that while you can certainly mention/use other imagined relationships, whether past or present, the R/T one should be the main focus of your fic or art. For example, if your story is about Remus/Someone Else, and Tonks only appears fleetingly for a paragraph, then we’d respectfully suggest this isn’t the best place for it.

Other than that, we’d be very happy to see AU, death denial fic (what deaths?), R/T gen fic, use of the information from Remus’s bio at Pottermore (or ignoring it ;)), and ideas such as time travel where Tonks could bump into a young Remus in the Marauder-era (or vice versa). We’d love to see some Teddy-centric stories/art here as well, perhaps where he learns something about his parents, and we get the chance to see how he and any other characters are affected by it. Fun as well to see Remus and Tonks through the eyes of other characters - the list of possibilities is endless and up to you.

2. Ratings
At the moment, we’re only accepting fics, graphics and art up to and including R rating. Please ensure that appropriate warnings are given outside the LJ cut, and that any art is work-safe to view.

3. Plagiarism
We won’t tolerate anyone taking anyone else’s work and claiming it as their own. We’ve been around for years in the fandom and will know if you do.

Now to the main event!

The SpringFest 2014
Just like last time, this event will involve members first leaving prompts, and then using prompts to inspire their fic and art creations. But this time, there are three categories of prompts: Character prompts, Time and Place prompts, and Miscellaneous prompts. You may pick a prompt from just one of these categories, or two, or even use a prompt from each of the three categories if you want a challenge! And there’s no need to claim prompts ahead of time - just identify them in the header when you post your fic or art. (What if you’re a devoted Remus/Tonks reader but don't plan to post fic or art? Then you’re still absolutely welcome to leave prompts. What would you like to see someone write or draw?)

The post above this one is the prompt post. It has comments already in place to start off each of the prompt categories. Just "reply" to the comment designating the category where you'd like to leave your prompt(s), and then other writers and artists will know where to look for their inspiration. We'd love lots of prompts for this event, so you are welcome to leave up to five prompts in each category. (And you don't have to leave them all at once - for example, you can leave two character prompts today and three more character prompts next Tuesday in another comment, if inspiration returns.)

About the prompt categories:
  • A character prompt is any Harry Potter character other than Remus, Tonks, and Teddy.

  • A time or place prompt is just that - a date or time period, or a location. Image prompts are welcome!

  • A miscellaneous prompt can be anything else: a quotation, an opening or closing sentence, a photograph, a song, an object or spell from the books - you get the idea. Be as creative as you like!
Here’s how to get started:

Step 1. To join the event, simply go to the prompt post and leave at least one prompt in one category. (Though remember, you can leave up to five prompts in each category!) After you've done this, you'll be given posting access once posting is open.

Step 2. Browse the prompts, pick one each from as many categories as you like, and start your fic or artwork! There is no formal prompt claiming (and if you change your prompt halfway though working on your piece, we’ll never know).

With regard to fics, you can submit anything from drabbles (100 words minimum) to chapter-length epics. Short fics to big-bang length, it’s up to you. The same goes for art: one picture or several graphics, if you wish.

Although the event is called SpringFest, the fics and art do not have to be seasonal at all!

Posting will open on Friday, April 25th. Details of how to post will be provided when posting opens. The event will run through midnight Pacific time on Friday, May 16th. (Fair warning: This time, to keep the momentum going, we’re not going to have an extension. ;) ) We've got three full weeks to craft our fics and art - and you’re welcome to post as many pieces of fic and art as you would like while posting is open.

Any questions? Leave them in the comments on this post. And now, here’s to a little more R/T fic and art in the world!
