LJ Idol Week 9: Keep Calm and End This Meme

Part One: Frodo Lives!

It’s called Fandom.

It’s basically an addiction at this point.

You are obsessively enthusiastic about certain characters and stories.

You can’t stop even when it affects your well-being.

Even when you know you should.

Even when you are thinking, this isn’t even really making me happy anymore.

Other people doing it too ( Read more... )

Although I like the first section (I was Never Here) it doesn't really tie in to the other sections except for one sort of throw-away line near the very end. I almost think it would be stronger without the first section, but that's just one person's opinion.

Also, there are a few spots where you write: It’s, ... where you should remove the comma, or else write out It is... because it's a bit awkward otherwise.

Thank you so much!

Yeah, I kind of figured it might be better without the first part but I think I was having a "kill your darlings" moment and just needed someone else to say so.

You're welcome - glad I could help! I really do think it is a stronger piece this way, and it will definitely get my vote this week. =)

I've never truly gotten into the whole fanfiction thing. I remember finding out about it when Harry Potter first came out and there were all these stories about Harry Potter, Snape, and Viagra . . .

OMG! Snape and Viagra eeep.

Heh, Harry Potter was probably my first true foray into the fan fic world but I was writing even my own versions of literary characters when I was too young to even know it was a thing other people did too. I used to write stories in which Anne Shirley and Diana Barry fell in love and Jo March and Theodore Lawrence ran off together and joined a traveling theatre troupe.

My 16 year old sister has written Labyrinth fanfiction and we just met last year. So it was funny we had this to bond over.

The story that you and your sister just met must be something being that she's 16.

I was always more into trying to make a stage play out of my children's books.

Yeah, I was into chat rooms (found one that was called "The Chapel" at a site Freetown . . . doesn't exist any longer). People were nice, but they did post stories of Snape and Harry taking these "little blue pills" and I just could hardly believe it at times. Viagra became quite a joke there, though.

Well I hadn't seen my Father in about 14 years. and before that I had only "met" him a few times since I was five or six. We were reunited recently and he's been a great support my life ( ... )

Wow, I'm really impressed with how cleanly you cut to the bone in regards to some fandom-type obsessions.

It was cathartic to sort of just put it all out there and even more so that other people seem to understand and have succumbed to some of the same.

Thank you for reading and commenting :)

I wish I could say I had _no idea_ what any of this was about, but...

OTOH, you really should read The Hunger Games if you haven't by now. :D

Haha indeed!

I have such long reading list. Even more than fan fiction these days I've been binging on new shows and catching up on others. Watching entire seasons in a day :smh:

Oh that is really nice to hear thank you. I was worried the second part was too scattered. As I've mentioned in past weeks I've realized I write in this very stream of conscience style and I want to work on tightening it up a bit.
