This was incredibly intense, veering from the personal to the global with anxious urgency. It really did need to be read aloud.

Such a complicated, personal poem. I loved the lines "We picked the scabs off each others souls until we were raw/because we liked the taste of each other’s blood." Reading it aloud added another dimension.

The wings of my soul so often caged by circumstance
I have become an expert escape artist
As destructive as the wind

I loved this line, so well reflected in the idea that the narrator is only a bus ticket away from leaving if things get too difficult, too something that can no longer be endured.

This was a fascinating piece.
