Challenge - Theme: Power. Pairing: Changmin/Kyuhyun.
When Kyuhyun wakes up at five thirty in the morning to prepare for work, there is another person curled up tightly against his side, half wrapped into the thick winter blankets, face buried into most of his pillow.
He nudges the body roughly and manages to mumble a semi-coherent, “get up, you’re in my room and hogging up my bed, you asshole.”
Minutes after seconds seem to tick by but the person doesn’t budge, breathing peacefully as his back raises and falls in timid rhythm.
“Hey,” Kyuhyun grumbles, kicking them gently with his foot. “Time to wake up. You’re in my room.”
Still, there is no reply. Kyuhyun lazily reaches over and grabs the nearest part of the pseudo-corpse’s body and tugs on it - the section conveniently being the person’s forearm - as he groans silently at the heavy weight.
All of a sudden he feels the person using their own force, pulling him down onto the bed in a jolt. Losing his balance, Kyuhyun lands on the bed with his face to the ceiling, a fresh expression greeting his. “Finally,” Kyuhyun rolls his eyes.
“Why’d you wake me up?” His friend whines.
Kyuhyun tries to free himself of the boy’s grasp, nestling his wrist and twisting it in angles to slide out of his hold. It doesn’t work. “Let go of me, Changmin.”
Of course, if Changmin were such an obedient person, he would not be Kyuhyun’s best friend. “I was up for work until three thirty in the morning,” Changmin complains, “why would you be so cold-hearted and kick me out of your bed?”
“Oh shut up and stop whining like a girl,” Kyuhyun says.
As Kyuhyun makes to sit up, Changmin forces him back down and holds his arms by the wrist over his head against the bedding to keep him in securely in place. “Oh come on,” Changmin grins, “don’t be such a prick.”
For effect, Kyuhyun hardens a glare on the other boy, but it doesn’t faze Changmin at all.
Changmin lowers himself a little closer, words ghosting over the soft skin of Kyuhyun’s cheek as he runs a free hand down Kyuhyun's abdomen. “You’ve always been so weak,” he provokes. “Anyone could easily overpower you.”
A shiver courses through Kyuhyun, and it takes up nearly all his strength to force back a moan when Changmin shifts boldly above him, rubbing the fabrics of their frontal jeans and wife-beaters together.
Morning erections were never a man’s best friend.
“I’m going to be late,” Kyhuhyun grits through his teeth.
Changmin widens his eyes innocently and releases Kyuhyun without hesitation, flopping back onto the bed beside Kyuhyun while Kyuhyun stood to leave. “Get out of my room,” he says nonchalantly, running his fingers through his curly hair. “You have your own room for a reason.”
The next thing he knows, the sound of feet tapping on the wooden floors greets him just before he’s pushed back, with his spine against the doors of his closet. Changmin shoves his knee between Kyuhyun’s legs and pins him flush against the wall. He reaches down to run his fingers over the button to Kyuhyun's pants.
“What do you want?” Kyuhyun growls, slapping the other boy's hand away.
Changmin frowns, leaning forward and running his lips over the curve of Kyuhyun’s ear to the nape of his neck; kisses ghosting over Kyuhyun’s jawline. “Can’t I miss a good, old buddy?” Changmin sighs exasperatedly, his breath tickling the other boy’s skin, making his skin itch and crawl all the way to the southern pole.
With a failed effortless drive of his fists against Changmin’s chest, Kyuhyun gives in and rests his forehead against Changmin’s shoulder. “I need to go,” he sighs sadly, “I’m going to be late for work.”
The other boy ignores his plead and pushes him back, drawing his knee higher into the gap of the pants. Kyuhyun groans when he’s hard against Changmin’s leg, the cloth separating them doing no justice to relieve him of his desire.
He can feel Changmin smirk into his hair, long fingers weaving through his thick locks. “You could just stay home and have some fun with me.”
Kyuhyun furrows his brows, repressing the impulse to grind himself against Changmin’s personal-space-intruding limb. “We’re not-,” he grimaces, “I can’t-, that isn’t...”
Changmin chuckles at Kyuhyun’s flusteredness, pulling back to look him in the eyes. The other boy is so cute right now, Changmin could kiss him. Almost.
“Thanks, but no thanks.”
As per (hinted) request, Changmin raises his arms into the air as if in surrender and takes a single step back, allowing Kyuhyun enough space to escape his hostage. “I’ll be waiting for you in bed tonight!” He sings.
“Don’t!” Kyuhyun shouts back from the bathroom.
His demand goes unheard, though, because Changmin is fast asleep; tucked under his blankets, dug deep into his pillow.
Changmin misses this, the days when they spent every living moment together as pre-teens; watching movies, reading, playing video games, goofing off. They have known each other for so long - as far back as their memories can take them - that nothing can make them uncomfortable with each other.
Not even jokes like the one Changmin had made.
Kyuhyun takes a cold shower, images and memories of Changmin’s morning breath against his skin, his gentle caress on his waist, the firm hold Changmin held on his wrists invading his conscience.
Friendship was a forever type of thing, but romance was not.
As much as Kyuhyun had believed he was strong, he had no power over his heart and no control over his courage. His decisions were often made by his reasoning mind and not his impulsive heart, dominating all his fears and doubts.
Changmin was exactly the same.
Maybe they weren’t lovers, but they were close enough, Kyuhyun reasoned.
No kisses, no intimacy beyond that of what is reasonable in friendship, no explanations from late night returns or phone calls and text messages from people the other did not recognize. They held no control over the other, and no power over their lives, but they didn’t need it.
What they had for each other was stronger; it was trust.
And, this night, Kyuhyun had faith in, at least, one thing. When he returned this evening, Changmin would still be tangled in his bedsheets, the living daylights still knocked out of him, but there will be food on his table and there will be enough sweets to last them a lifetime of hibernation but, most of all, there will be Changmin.
Changmin and his condition-less existence.
With this thought, Kyuhyun smiles to himself as he glances back at the door to his room once more before he leaves the apartment.
Because, after all, friendship is never-ending and their relationship - they - will last until they both grow so old their memories are no longer in tact, when they don’t even have the power to lift a single finger anymore.
They treat their relationship delicately; with enough caution to preserve affinity, but just enough risk to nearly sever ties.
It’s what keeps them going, Changmin says. Motivating them to think about the other often enough to drive them each insane, but have enough fear not to cross any unnecessary boundaries.
It’s an art and power of finesse, both rewarding and a treacherous punishment. For their affection is looked down upon and banned by the world, but it doesn’t stop them.
This is who they are, and they can appreciate it.
They can appreciate each other.

A/N: Following the conclusion of our Initial Line Challenge is the Themes Challenge~! But.. we are updating a lot less often, taking real life into consideration. There were 24 prompts for ILC, but there will be 18 for TC. Anyhow, please do anticipate!
And, also, I hope this wasn't horrible ;A; It's my first time writing Changkyu and I haven't been having much of an urge to write Kyuhyun the past half a year or so... =/ I dunno. I hope I didn't kill this pairing. T.T
