Prompt 6. Pillows, “a kindred spirit”. Changmin/Victoria
Rating: PG-13 | Genre: AU!General, Angst | Disclaimer: I don't own them, SME does. Plot is mine. | Summary: Your mind forgets, but your heart never does.
Warning: UN-BETA'D.
Victoria sits crouched together at the front of her bed, against the wall, with a pillow squeezed against her numbing chest. It’s supposed to stop the pain, she reasons, because if you use all your strength and force elsewhere, anywhere but the mind, it won’t have the time of day to break the heart.
She’s almost right - almost.
就让她带走你的那瞬间成为我们的纪念
(just allow the moment she takes you away to become our momento)
There are rules to everything in this world.
As far as Changmin knows, he’s broken each and every single rule that exists in the world. The day he took a chance, the opportunity to to pry apart Victoria’s facade and force himself into her world, he knew he had done something that was beyond repair.
“Changmin-ah.”
It’s a voice he’s familiar with, but not a voice he wants to hear. He answers kindly, none the less. “Yes?”
“It’s time to go,” the girl smiles at him sweetly. The layer of gloss coating her lips are pink, sakura pink, and it’s a color he’s never seen on Victoria’s own pair of lips. He doesn’t like it very much when he kisses them - they taste like plastic, like petals, like rotten flesh.
He smiles back. “Okay.”
There probably won’t be another moment he will regret more than this moment now, as he walks through the gates of the airport departure, willing himself not to look back - not to anticipate.
He doesn’t want to be disappointed again.
谁能发现我的世界曾经有过你的脸
(who is able to discover that your face was once in my world?)
She imagines that her tears collect as they fall from her cheeks and transforms into small butterflies, fluttering across her bedroom to rest on the flowers sprawled all over her desk.
”If you have nothing to say to me, then I’m leaving.”
Victoria nods, smiling, and waves Changmin goodbye. “Treat her well.”
“Victo-”
“Changmin! It’s time to go,” a voice from outside the door bellows.
The boy can only swallow his words and furrow his brows, closing his eyes in frustration briefly before stepping towards Victoria.
Victoria takes a step back, distancing herself from him, but Changmin reaches out and grabs her by the shoulders gently. His gloved hands are soft, despite their thickness, and his large beige coat shuffles with every small movement he makes.
“A-are your sure you don’t have anything to tell me?” He insists.
“You’re a kindred spirit, always stay this way,” she blinked tiredly at him. “Have a safe trip, Changmin-ah,” is all she says.
Changmin bites down on his bottom lip before looking away from her large, round eyes. “Live well,” is what he whispers, just before he leans down to plant a soft kiss on her bangs over her forehead. “Don’t forget me.”
The butterflies settle in her stomach when she remembers the set of events before Changmin had left. She watched the other girl take Changmin by the hand as they strayed from her house by the window, hiding behind the blinds.
Every time Changmin looked back, she would hide further away from view.
These would, eventually, all be but fuzzy memories. No one would know that, at one point in time, they had loved each other - that she had allowed herself to fall in love with him, however short that moment was.
Victoria never quite forgets Changmin over the years, but she gets close enough.
She allows her love to numb, dulling as she forgets his face.
But her heart doesn’t forget the pain. It never does.
