Everything Is Hockey: A WIP Post

Apr 11, 2012 21:14

All I'm writing these days is hockey fic. Including a story that fulfills my theory that my participation in a fandom is not complete until I write a story about someone getting pregnant. So, WIP post! Have some samples of things I'm writing.

Kane/Toews, Babyfic )

fic: real person slash, t.j. oshie, fic: real person het, asking, writing, fic by me, fic: het, kane/toews, crosby/ovechkin, fic: slash, alex ovechkin, wip, oshie/toews, patrick kane, jonathan toews, hockey, sidney crosby

re: the first problem on your list - me too! It's one thing to write them as supporting characters, but I still haven't figured out how either one of them as the POV person would refer to themselves in the narrative. :-/ (Additional question: why does this seem to be such a Kaner-Tazer specific problem?)

I know! So hard. I'm leaning toward Pat and Jo(h)nny. I've watched a couple of things with media people calling Kaner Pat (which has to be because he told them to), and there's that interview where Kaner refers to Tazer as Jo(h)nny. (I have no idea how that should be spelled. I've seen it both ways, and googling doesn't help. Although if you google Johnny Toews, Google thinks you might want Canadian historian John E. Toews.)

I think at this point, every writer just picks one and goes with that, since there is apparently no official version.

THERE SHOULD BE. (You know how I am about details and source citations, right?)

I don't really have anything helpful to say, but UGH MY HEART IS ALREADY BROKEN BY THE STAR CROSSED LOVERS ONE, WHAT HAVE YOU DONE :"Fine! You want the truth? The truth is he was my first fucking love and if we'd been drafted by the same team, we'd still be together. The truth is I don't want anyone to set me up because it's a hell of a lot easier to just hook up with chicks who don't expect me to call them anyway. Breaking up with T.J. was the hardest thing I've ever done, and I'm not going through that again!" Jon hurls the rest of his gear into his stall and stalks off to the showers. ;__________ ( ... )

Don't worry! The star-crossed lovers get a happy ending! ♥

(I'm definitely being consistent within each story, but it just seems like there should be an obvious choice for each of them! I will probably end up with variations on their real names, except for the babyfic where they're going to stay Kaner and Tazer because that story is basically just silliness all the way through.)

I ...have no real helpful comments to add. I am excited for fic though! The girl!Syd intrigues me a lot, even though Toews is my absolute favorite, so more fic with him is always excellent. Pregnant Syd is going to face a lot of issues, and it is both a tribute to Syd and a worrying sign about the state of the NHL that the doctors do not even consider pregnancy for her symptoms, instead going straight to concussion. My own experience with doctors tells me no matter what your symptoms, that's the first thing they ask - oh, you've been coughing for 2 weeks, could you be pregnant? headdesk.

Mostly this is a cheerleadery post to say you will figure out what works for you, and the audience will love it tremendously.

Girl!Syd needs so much work, and a lot of thinking about what it means for her to be a woman in the NHL. I think by this time Syd has very much trained the team personnel into thinking of her as a hockey player, not a girl. (It helps that she has an external gynecologist she sees for annual exams.) Also, from external to the story reasoning, (a) NHL doctors don't seem to engender much privacy and (b) I don't want anyone to know Syd's pregnant until she tells them herself.

♥ Thank you for the cheerleading!
