More good fic! Haha. I could say that for any of my pairings/fandoms, really. That's not really fair for me to say since I'm just now getting back into reading R/S, so for all I know there's a ton of it being produced every day and I just don't know where to find it!

Heee! Yes, yes, good fic! How do you find it, these days? My work situation is so intense right now that I'm not reading or writing much at all--I occasionally read recs from friends' LJ pages, but I'm not following communities, AO3 tags, or tumblr or anything like that. (Though now that I write that, I should make sure we crosspost to tumblr and get our AO3 collection set up!) I feel like you step away from fandom for a moment (or a year or two) and it completely reconfigures itself. :) M.

Hell if I know! I'm sure there's good stuff at AO3, but you have to be willing to wade through all the garbage to find it -- and there's so much there that you really have to keep up with it or you'll fall behind. (Kind of how LJ used to be...)

I realized I haven't posted recs myself in years, so I'm hoping to start rectifying that. :)

I'm in the same boat! Though I just found Archive of Our Own, and there's some nice new fic on there. There are two short stories I really liked by boy_princess about Remus and Sirius getting married during OOtP. "let the record show" and "Lupin, who was living in the house with Sirius"

Well, I haven't been in fandom for a while. Not since 2009. I looked on lj to see what I had missed, and found that there was a mass exodus soon after I left. If anyone knows of any can't miss fic or art that's been out since May 2009, please let me know! Fics I want more of- ones where Sirius and Remus bond with Harry. Most of the ones I've seen for that have been gen. You can never have too many Bring Back Black fics. I used to want more missing scene Post-Azkaban fic, but I've been finding some great ones lately. More would still be good! And I'd like more fic that shows the great friendship between Sirius and James.

Fandom changes so much! I was very active several years ago (well, nearly a decade ago, actually), but then RL intervened, and I can't shake the feeling that the party went on without me. It's one of the wonderful things about fandom, that it's so decentralized and adaptable, but it also makes it hard to get a sense of the whole if you're not paying a lot of attention. I'm glad you've found AO3--it's intimidating how much fic is over there, but the search function makes it more manageable. For me, at least.

I love missing-scene Post-Azkaban fic--it might be one of my favorite scenarios. Seconded! :) M.

I agree with everyone here about more good fic, although, that's an incredibly subjective idea. I almost never read in this fandom except for fests anymore because it's simply too daunting to dig through, even if this is still my favorite pairing ever ( ... )

Yes! Totally agree. The scar thing does make sense to me, but I've wondered about the muggle clothing thing myself, in fact I was surprised by all the muggle clothing in the films!

I'm very happy though that the former Marauder trope of Remus being all shy and timid (and even tearful) has by and large been knocked on the head - I know I go on about that a lot, but that weird idea used to be so persistent and used to really do my head in!

I want to throw out there that I don't actually have any complaint with any of the things I mentioned. They were mostly examples. I actually love to put them in muggle clothes because you can tell so much from them... time period, personality quirks, how much they care about fitting in or standing out. I could go on forever about it (along with my thoughts on using muggle clothes for the movies... but then, costume design major in another life... I tend to get stuck on clothing choices a lot) but I'll be good. It's more the idea that as a unit fandom has settled on these ideas that don't actually come from canon. And they can be wonderful ideas, but I'm incredibly curious as to how the fandom as a whole got here. I'm rather late to the party and I missed that part.

Oh my god, yes!!! I loath shy wilting Remus. I mean, he was a marauder for fuck sake. My personal favorite is sneaky, devious hiding behind being respectable Remus. I'm thrilled that there has been far less wet noodle Remus lately. It made my head completely spin.

I was in a TV fandom where this happened. It was the first fandom I was in, new to fic, and was confused about all these things appearing in every fic that I didn't remember from the show. It turned out that they had all been started by one fic writer, who was very influential because she had started the gen fic site for that fandom (Stargate SG1). Yes, I'd be interested to find out how it all started in this fandom!

Another one is the famous Gryffinwhore Sirius. Really, where did that come from? Just because he's handsome? I can see, though, why everyone uses the same things for our guys. As you said, there is just that one scene showing them as kids. So when showing that era fandom sort of has to create it's own 'verse for them. It's kind of fun. But Gryffinwhore Sirius is the one I would do without, just because there's really no basis at all for that in book or movie canon. (Can you tell I was just reading a fic with that? Sprung it on me all of a sudden, the dastard!)

I have to comment.

Why aren't there more comments and observations that Sirius is committing bestiality by being with Remus. Wizards hate and fear werewolves, heck Remus's wife was murdered in part for being married to him, and you're telling me no one batted an eye? The Order had quite a few members, at least one of them had to express "concern" for Sirius's well-being.

That's never occurred to me - but very valid point!

I agree that it's strange only the Bad Guys express any prejudice against Remus on that front. *nods* Fic, anyone? M.

I would like to see more versatile R/S - rather than one being the top and the other being the bottom. There seem to be popular trends for who does what - for ages R was always the bottom, then S became sort of a power bottom, I guess the tide swings whenever people get sick of one or the other ( ... )

Oh, god, I have So Many Thoughts on gender stereotypes and the binary system we place people into and... but I'll behave, because I don't want to soapbox.

But that aside, I totally agree with you about more versatility. If for nothing more than variety. And, hell, I'd also love to see more of people breaking away from that binary a bit more in other ways.
