Another entry that I wish I could rate higher than a 9! Your use of the prompt is truly outstanding and I actually wish this was canon rather than the way it played out by JK Rowling.
I really like that you explored how Sirius' falling through the veil effected not just Remus and Harry even though the events in your world are different, I could at least imagine that this was a devastating event! I liked seeing the other characters after the battle and a story that wasn't entirely focused on Harry and his status as the savior of their world. Your Snape felt rather appropriate also. I've always thought that the one character he might have been able to form a non/adversarial relationship with, if he wanted it was Lupin. So I could "see" him helping with the research even while disclosing Remus' plan to anyone.
I actually saw this as a happy ending of sorts. Rowling reunited Sirius and Remus at the end of her story and said that Harry had never seen them look better. I prefer to see that reunion sooner rather than later....

Oh, that was great. I love love love your depiction of Neville, and I'm so happy to see a fairly characteristic Snape that also manages to be a bit of a softie. And poor Remus, staggering under all that grief ... very, very well done.

I'm late to vote, but this was wonderful. I loved and ached for Remus all the way through. And though the end was bittersweet, it was sweet too. ♥
