AWWWWWWW!!! My heart melted a little. That was a delightful story. I loved the way you worked the fairy tales in, and Sirius being so sweet in his slightly awkward way. <3 I also must admit I'm a glutton for Remus angst, and this was just what I needed.

Well done!

Oh I really prepared myself for total tragedy based on the warnings. I'm glad the ending didn't cut my heart out. I enjoyed the tension from the ongoing war, James being all responsible, and I really like how it's so focused on Remus even though its not from his pov.

“James, should you…?” Remus began, but James was already getting up, hastily digging through his schoolbag for his Head Boy badge. -- OK, James is obviously not the central character here, but I love that you've shown his maturity by seventh year. “I’m sorry.” Remus spoke without turning around. His anger, too, had dissipated. His voice was sad.
An apology was expected; it meant nothing in itself. Remus was always apologising. -- D: Excellent characterization though.

“We’re so late,” Remus mumbled at last, against Sirius’s shoulder.
Sirius pulled away to look at him quizzically.
“Class,” Remus reminded, the beginning of a smile pulling at the end of his mouth though his eyes were still red.
“Prefect.” -- YES. Even in the midst of that heart-breaking, soul-baring conversation, they make little meaningless jokes like that ( ... )

that was beautifully written and you really seem to know the characters perfectly. you could write them better than jkr, i think. i just loved the easy dynamic between them and how well they seemed to really know and get each other. it made perfect sense and was a really nice use of the prompt as well.

I, too, was prepared with a box of tissue, but while this was heart-wrenching, the way you ended was an utter delight. <3
