Sassy - Update

If you are the praying type, could you please say a little one for my cat? The vet called and Sassy isn't holding down her feedings. She can't come home until she stops vomiting. Also, if she doesn't stop vomiting, then she won't get any better. She needs the food to stop her liver from eating all the fat in her body ( Read more... )

How are they feeding her? Is it feeding tube, or forced feedings? My Katie had a feeding tube placed and it turned out to be too close to the stomach flap thingy, and they had to change the positioning of the tube for the feedings to stay down. Once that happened, she was able to recover. Anyway regardless, as someone who has been there done that, many prayer being sent your way!

Thank you! That's a good point. She has a tube. It's in her throat and goes to just before her stomach so to activate her sphincter. (Wow, I can't believe I spelled that right.) I really appreciate the thoughts and advice. It's good to know your kitty recovered. I am so worried about my Sassy.

Yep, when she had her tube placed the first time it was too close and then she lost the tube completely so they had to redo the surgery. The second time, again it was too close so they pulled it back just a smidge and she then was able to hold her feedings down. Most of the feedings were our responsibility in care, and I had found a website talking about how to increase food and change from a massive multiple amounts a day feeding pattern to larger meals more spaced out. From everything I read though, most cats can recover once the food stays down.

She's going to the vet for a check tomorrow.
She's doing OK. She's walking around a bit, and made it downstairs and even jumped onto the couch by herself. She was on Reglan for nausea, but I think that was actually causing her to throw up. (She threw up every time we gave her the Reglan.) She threw up a bit at 3 of her 6 feedings today, but never all of it, and the other 3 went swimmingly.
See - I think larger meals more spaced out are the way to go too! And with us supposed to go on vacation on Tuesday... As of now, I'm not going. I really hope she improves more. Yesterday and Friday night, she was so much NOT herself. Today, she was a bit closer too. Thank you for letting me know about this. I'll check your katie tag.

I plan to catch up someday. I just wanted to make sure I responded to this one now so you know I'm thinking of you.
