Poor pup!

My dog came home from the park today scratching his face, and an hour later his eye had swollen up enormously !! The clinic said it looked like an allergic reaction. They were so busy and we waited so long they finally told me I should go somewhere else. But by then his eye had gone down some, his temp was normal, and he was cranky and hungry so we ( Read more... )

Aww... he's so not impressed with the whole eye thing. But maybe its good for food. Food is good.

(Or at least that's how mine would be reacting)

On a more serious note, do you know what he might have gotten into?

Hah... he got two whole hot dogs out of my pity.

I'm really not sure... it's the same park we go to every single day, and we weren't even there for very long (it started raining). It's basically open grassy spaces and a couple of dirt piles that the dogs play in. He swam in the pond for a few minutes and crashed around with the other dogs.. he might have gotten bit or stung by some insect for all I know... other than that.. I'm not sure what he could have had such a localized reaction to. Hopefully it doesn't happen again.

is it just the area around it that is swolen or is the eye itself red? one of my older weim's eye got all red and it had been because of pressure on the eye due to an ear infection we didn't catch. be careful to watch out for that if you catch it to late it can really damage their eye sight or they can even lose their eye (not to freak you out)...my dog was already 12 so he was beginning to have lots of health problems anyway.

It was just the area around the eye that was swollen. By the time we went to bed it was almost completely back to normal, thankfully!

Our girl had an allergic reaction when she was a pup that caused the outside of her ear to bleed. It went away as she got older, so hopefully it will be the same for you. Good luck.
