I will confess, this is actually one of my favorite adaptations of any of JA's novels (the other being Persuasion with Root/Hinds).

As a whole, every character was great for me, especially the portrayal of Edmund and Mr Crawford.

Your point about the ending: perhaps that was not well thought out or shown correctly, but I recall the ending was more in line with the book.. over a matter of time Edmund finally realised what he had in front of him all the time, and Fanny had been waiting for him to see her properly.

I am aware that the miniseries' ending was very faithful to the novel. And that was the problem. The screenwriter should have realized that jumping to Fanny and Edmund's wedding like that lacked any dramatic development. But he was too busy trying to be faithful to Austen.
