Many claim the last shot was an indicator that the entire movie had been a dream and that Cobb remained stuck in a dream state. Others believe the spinning top - Mal’s totem - was nothing more than a red herring. As far as they were concerned, Cobb had genuinely reunited with his kids. I think the idea that the entire movie was a dream is separate from the last scene really. Certainly the movie gives the suggestion that we might be in a dream all over the place. Particularly the scene where DiCaprio is trying to squeeze through a narrow gap ( ... )

By "never escaped from limbo" I mean after entering it during the heist.

you have to try watching one of christopher nolan's earlier movies: memento. it's as much of a mindfuck as inception. and i mean that in a good way :P

That was one of the best reviews I've read in a long while, it is very insightful and well-written.

I was also very much impressed by 'Inception' but I don't think it was Nolan's best work. I haven't seen his earlier works yet, but I think both 'The Prestige' and 'The Dark Knight' capture Nolan's ability to create a unique storyline based on a known/popular concept and fully explore the characters.
