I couldn't deal with the inexplicable appearance of what appeared to be Peter Pan and the lost boys riding on donkeys armed with sticks joining in the battle at the end...

Hmmm . . . sounds like you're describing the 1938 film with Errol Flynn.

Nope it was the new one. They arrived at the same time as Cate Blanchet and they looked fully stupid.

Well, I guess we disagree. Don't we?

My biggest problem with the movie is it seems to be missing about a half an hour somewhere in the middle. I think that if it hadn't been butchered some of the (true) negative points you bring up might make sense. I am holding out hope that a director's cut dvd will help matters.

What do you think was missing?

Having seen the dvd since I made my comment the movie makes more sense. There is a longer break between Robin's arrive in Yorkshire and the reveal about his father, and more scenes that explain the arrival of the boys and Marion at the end battle.

Scott has long had problems with losing final edit on his movies before they are theatrically released, and I feel like this movie was a victim of it.

I don't recall any kids fighting in the final battle. I do recall Robin, his men and Marian setting camp in the forest with those kids.
