Enjoyed reading this write-up. Like you I also pooh-poohed the hype when first heard about it, due to the comparisons with Harry Potter. Thought it was just another concept trying to ride the tails of the Wizard story's success. However, I teach teenagers and the buzz from them about the movie and books soon started. So I downloaded the three books and started reading. I wasn't impressed. I think mainly because I just couldn't, or wouldn't, buy into the premise that in ANY post-apocalyptic society, people would be quite so dumb, and mute, and powerless, (after all that would have had to come to pass BECOMING a post-apocalyptic society) as to fall for, allow, something like the Games to actually happen!

I was half way through the first book when I went to see the movie. So glad I did! Probably for the first time ever I found the movie better than the book! :) Brought me to tears in places. It also made the rest of the book, and the subsequent two, much more enjoyable and fulfilling.
