For me it looks that Michael Pitt WAS the lead and killed by the script authors to avoid further continuation of competition with Steve Buscemi as an actor, not as a gangster.
I am disappointed. I'm not really sure that I would watch season three.
It looks for me that the whole story in season one and two was based upon rivalry between Nucky and Jimmy. Who is the new Nucky's enemy now?

I'm sorry but I never saw Michael Pitt as THE LEAD of "BOARDWALK EMPIRE". He's a good actor, but he's not that good. I didn't tune in to the show, for two years just to watch Pitt. And quite frankly, I never saw him as "competition" to Buscemi.
