If you Lulu it, can you later be published or are the copyrights all screwed up since then?

I would retain the copyright. The only problem would be from a publisher that wouldn't want a books that's been published before.

if you want to be a serious writer, then i don't think self publishing is ever the way. it can work out, but you have to promote really hard and hope pepople take you seriously. people have negative feelings towards self publishing because it's a lazy mans way of doing it and doesn't have any proffessional ness to it.

does lulu edit? cos at least if they edit the books, that's something. but a publisher, small or big, are at least a vetting process of some sort. it shows that someone is willing to take a chance and put your forward. lulu doesn't have that.

i'd try small print places first. that's also free, you may make less cash but it has a more reliable profeesional edge to it.

My publishers publish through Lulu, so it's not just for self-publishing. I agree with Fran, try small print places. Hey, it worked for us!

and im going to add, at least with having a publisher who uses lulu, you have the benefit of editing and a reputable name backing you. to self publish through lulu gets the same product, but without the support, which i think makes a difference
