She's all about control. She's manipulative, cunning, great at acting, and unfeeling. What I've gathered from the book is that she doesn't actually know how to love anything, except perhaps herself. Everything about Coraline is controlling her and making her love her; Coraline is a pawn. I didn't really like the interpretation of her in the movie because it was all "BAWWWW DON'T LEAVE MEEEEE". I don't think she's lonely; she wants someone to control, which is part of the reason why Other Father was made by her.
She's not too quick to anger, but when she does get angry, she doesn't hold back. She would scratch Coraline's face off if she was upset enough, so don't make her all nice and flowery inside because she's always acting. She's not a nice person. (If she's even a person at all). When things don't go her way, she hates it. When someone disobeys her, she hates it, and will probably punish them for it.
Other Mother is a bitch and a half, and you need to make sure that gets across.
