Oz is, for one, fairly 'carefree', at least outwardly. He takes things in stride, makes jokes in serious sorts of situations and in general never ever seems like something is actually bothering him. While this starts to change later in the series (after getting sense slapped into him), I think it's going to stick around for the most part, and we see it do that a little bit. It's kind of hard to change such a central part of you so quickly, after all. So even if you're taking him from more recent chapters (I assume you're going manga, anyway), you're going to have that part of him sticking around for it.
He's also nearly suicidal in his self-sacrificial nature. While most people won't pick up on this, and it's not quite as if he wants to die, but he's still not that into saving himself. For most of canon so far he's been more than willing to throw himself away to save other people. A great example of it would be when he points Raven's gun at his throat when Doldum's possessing ( ... )
