Grell in general is upper class. He definitely would not speak like someone who grew up in the slums, however he's not perfectly proper. He tries to be so, yet not exactly...gets it. He might misuse a word at times, overuse another one, or just degrade into plain speech when trying to get his point across.
One thing I do follow quite closely is I believe Grell would not swear unless pushed to the breaking point. Not even "damn". Unless he's thinking to himself. He doesn't fill his talk with how great he is, but he has a slight aura of "I'm better than you".
Affection is a part of his words, he's liable to call anyone "dear", even his enemies (at which point it becomes sarcastic). Touching on sarcasm, Grell uses it moderately. As in "It's perfectly lovely", actually meaning "Of COURSE it's not fine." When irritated/annoyed, he probably still keeps some politeness, but if angry, he can get flat-out rude and bitter.
