Tom Navidson | House of Leaves anonymous September 5 2009, 06:09:33 UTC
someone please help me oh god

I figure he'd be easier to play than someone like Johnny Truant or Navy (does anyone actually play someone other than Johnny? He's the only HoL character I've seen mucking about LJ RP-land), but I'm not sure exactly how to handle him in an RP setting. He's just a normal, laid-back guy -- while someone like him certainly wouldn't be hurting for CR or things to post about, there is the fact that he's perfectly content to just get by without doing jack.

Also: wtf do I do about icons?

dude what

You're amazing.

I-I can try to help in some way, but I'm not sure... What point in the timeline are you taking him from? What kind of setting?

Also, Hollow Art for icons. Find someone somewhat bulky. I always imagined Tom a little bigger built than Navidson.

I really haven't decided where I'm going to take him from. I know I want to take him after Tom's Story but before his death, whether it's sometime after Navy comes back from climbing up the Great Staircase (so he's not completely emotionally fucked up, poor guy) or right after the house starts going crazy and he hands Daisy off to his brother so his fall will be the jumping-off point for whatever game I put him in.

I... uh. I was actually thinking of playing him at thedollsyhouse (the mods say they used House of Leaves as part of the inspiration for the game) but this is because I am a terrible person.

Well, when his timeline is will vastly change him. If he's pre-House going crazy, then he's still kind of the coward. ...No, "coward" is kind of too strong. He's not a coward, he's just afraid, and after being spooked and nearly losing his brother, he's kind of washed his hands of the matter. "You want to get killed, be my guest"-attitude.

If he's around the crazy-House timeline, then his love for his brother is definitely flooding through. He's also probably going to be injured when he goes to the game, just FYI.

Um...I'd definitely play up night-terrors with him. He's good with kids too, don't forget, and he's probably not nearly as lazy as he was in the beginning of the book. While I wouldn't play up a ridiculous amount of footnotes with him (none, actually), I'd definitely play up a fear of shadows, hating the cold, and night-terrors.

One other thing that just occurred to me... Try to play up any and all paranoia you can when he realizes from someone that the House never existed and no one ever heard of Navidson. That's ( ... )
