I'm wondering about balancing his flirtatious side without making him skeezy, and about the level of familiarity he'd engage other characters with. I think Sophie, Michael and Calcipher see a really different side to him; after all, they're living with him. I could see him very much putting on airs with everyone else, at least most people.

Also, this is book-verse.

Good ways to be flirtatious without being slimy. Hmmm. Uh, most of this is common sense stuff, and may or may not be helpful. Have him act very sincerely interested in what the woman he's talking to is saying. Ask questions, be responsive, smile a lot, make eye contact. Lots of gentlemanly behavior (asking permission to join her, kissing hands, etc). Use compliments sparingly, only when he really "means it", and make them about specific (and non-sexual) traits. Howl's really more of a serial dater than a straight up womanizer, so if he finds one girl that catches his eye, he'll probably focus most of his romantic efforts on her. I think he's lonely and needy, and he craves love and affection, but runs away when he gets scared or can't properly reciprocate because of the whole I-have-no-heart issue ( ... )
